Welcome to Episode 1 of Libyamedcast بودكاست طبي ليبي

بودكاست طبي ليبي (مدونة صوتية)؛

Welcome to Libyamedcast, where we hope to showcase our future podcasts aimed at Libyan doctors, medical students and the whole Libyan medical community. Our aim is to help improve health care in Libya and increase awareness of various important issues.

It’s a humble project where the aim is to discuss important topics in acute medical care, health related topics and medical education.

We are Libyan doctors, still in training, so we’re still learning and hope to share what we know with all of you. Our names are Ahmed and Hussein, we graduated from the faculty of medicine, Alfateh university, Tripoli, Libya.

Ahmed: When I first got the idea, it struck me that there is nothing like this any where, aimed at us, Libyan doctors, or for that matter I couldn’t find evidence of an Arabic podcast aimed at doctors, at least not to my knowledge. We truly need a platform where we can discuss medical knowledge in a language we use on a daily basis in Libya. When we speak in hospital, we use the Libyan Arabic accent mixed with the English language, so we have to use this for the podcast. I think the decision to use this form of communication is very important, this will facilitate learning and will also hopefully provide an informal yet important way of reaching our colleagues. We are new at this and we assure you we will probably stumble here and there while we learn how to this, but we have to start somewhere and we hope to improve and develop as times go on especially with your anticipated feed back. Initially there will be a lot of changing until we get the best formula, so there will be a lot flexibility. I will be inviting others to contribute via interviews and correspondence.

I have not made accurate plans for the podcast but my initial broad aims will be:

  • Clear communication: To use the every day Libyan medical language (Libyan Arabic + English).
  • Acute medical care: The major presentations and conditions and how to approach them.
  • Other topics: Related to medical education, ethics, evidence based medicine, topical issues etc.
  • Non medical issues:Mostly to provide respite, things like cultural issues.
  • Other Contributors: We will try arrange contributions from others to increase the breadth of knowledge as either guests or through correspondence.
  • Flexibility: The format, content and aims can change as time goes on with the aim for improvement.

This website will provide the outlines, the references, important links and any special issues related to the podcast. It will also provide a platform for further discussion on the podcasts.
I hope you can forgive us for any unintended mistakes, or any technical glitches etc. We are new at this, but we will try to learn as we progress. So you will hear a lot of umm’s and aaah’s and verbal mistakes etc, we’ll take it with a laugh as we hope you’ll do! Thank you for visiting and listening!

Hussein: This project is for all our colleagues, I hope me and Ahmed can present current knowledge in a simple and coherent manner. We will try to do so in a friendly informal manner, in a “hadraazi” way, and I hope it will be easy on the ear! We are very enthusiastic for the project and I think we can do a lot with it. Health care has progressed and there is so much to learn and this platform can be a modest start. We aim that all of you can learn something with us through the podcast and this site. Please contribute and keep visiting us here on our blog to check for progress and to provide feedback.
